F.A.Q

+ How do you determine nutrition information for a food product / recipe? Do you need food samples?

Nutrition information is calculated from your recipe or product formula using nutrition software. The calculations are based on your product’s ingredients, ingredient quantities, serving size, and method of preparation. Your recipe or formula will be held strictly confidential. We are not a lab facility and do not require actual food samples.

+ How do you determine nutrition information for restaurant menu items?

Nutrition information for restaurant menu items is calculated using nutrition software based on assembly guidelines, in-house recipes or sub-recipes, and ingredient specification sheets from suppliers.

+ What information do you require for nutrition analysis of a food product?

In general, the following information is required for nutrition analysis: 1.Your recipe or formula including a list of all ingredients and their quantities, preferably by weight. 2. The final weight, in grams, of one serving of your finished product or the number of servings the recipe makes. 3. Specification sheets for processed foods or specialty ingredients from your suppliers. 4. Methods of preparation. We may also require additional information depending on your specific product and may ask questions after reviewing your information.

+ Can you send me a legally compliant nutrition label for my food product?

Yes! Once we have calculated nutrition information for your food product, we can create a Canadian or US Nutrition Facts label for your retail packaging. It will be fully compliant with Health Canada or FDA regulations, depending on where the product will be sold. The Nutrition Facts label will be sent to you by email as either a vector file or image file ready to drop into your label artwork or print onto sticker labels.

+ Can I use the same nutrition label for products sold in both Canada and the United States?

No, you can’t use the same nutrition label for both Canadian and US markets. Although nutrition labels in Canada and the US look similar, there are significant differences in the mandatory nutrients, % Daily Value calculations, and general formatting. A Canadian nutrition label cannot legally be used on foods sold in the US and vice versa. Separate nutrition labels are required.

+ I would like to make nutrition claims for my product such as “high in fibre” or “low in sodium”. Can you help with this?

Yes, we can assess your product or recipe and determine the claims applicable to your product. In Canada, nutrition and health claims are regulated by Health Canada and specific criteria must be met.
